2-leg Chain Slings

A 2-leg chain sling carries a load from two lifting points: a pair of Grade 8 alloy chain legs hanging from one master link, with a hook on the end of each. It is the sling to choose for pipes, beams and anything else long that would swing or tip on a single point.

Shortening hooks at the top of each leg allow you to take links out of one side, ideal for levelling a load with offset lifting points.

We stock 2-leg slings in effective working lengths from 2m up to 8.5m. Our 10mm diameter steel sling, rated at 4.25 tonnes, will cover most general site lifting, and we also stock 13mm and 16mm sets for heavier structural work.

The Working Load Limit (aka Safe Working Load) depends on the angle between the legs as well as the chain size; the full figures are under the Specification tab above. If the load has more lifting points, you may require a 3-leg or 4-leg chain sling instead. For a single lifting point we also stock a wide range of drop chains.

How much can a 2-leg chain sling lift?
Our heaviest-duty 16mm 2-leg slings can lift up to 11.2 tonnes with the legs at up to 45 degrees from vertical. Wider leg angles may reduce the Working Load Limit. We're happy to consult if you need advice on what grade chain you need.
Why does the chain sling leg angle change the capacity?
As the legs spread apart, each leg pulls inwards as well as upwards, which increases the tension in the chain for the same load. Between 45 and 60 degrees from vertical the Working Load Limit drops by around a third, and a sling must never be used with its legs beyond 60 degrees.
Can you shorten the legs of a chain sling?
Yes. Our 2-leg slings have shortening hooks at the top of each leg, so you can take links out of either side to level an unevenly balanced load. Never shorten a leg by knotting or bolting the chain.
