A drop chain, also called a single leg chain sling, is one length of Grade 8 alloy chain with a master link at the top and a hook at the bottom. It hangs from a crane hook or an excavator's lifting point and gives you a simple, certified connection to a load with a single lifting point.
Drop chains do the everyday lifting on groundworks sites: placing concrete pipes and manhole rings with an excavator, lowering kit into an excavation, and adding certified reach below a crane hook when the load sits deeper than the hook can travel.
Our most common drop chain is 13mm chain at 1m effective working length, rated to 5.3 tonnes. Around that we hold sizes from 7mm up to 20mm, covering working load limits from 1.5 to 12.5 tonnes, mostly in short lengths of 0.5m to 2m with longer legs available.
Every hire leaves the depot with its test certificate. Drop chains pair naturally with our manhole ring lifting pins and the rest of the lifting chain range; for loads with two or more lifting points, move up to a 2-leg or 4-leg chain sling.
