A Strongboy bracket is a heavy-duty steel blade that slots into a raked-out mortar joint, sitting securely on top of an Acrow prop. It is designed to hold up masonry while you fit an RSJ or lintel underneath, supporting up to 340kg per unit.
Typical Strongboy Applications
By driving the blade into the bed joint above the beam position, the prop carries the load down to the floor from one side of the wall. Because the vertical support sits on a single side, the structural opening stays clear for you to work in.
Common tasks requiring Strongboys include:
- Breaking out single or double-skin walls.
- Installing steel RSJs and concrete lintels.
- Fitting new windows, doors, or bi-fold openings.
- Replacing damaged wall ties and supporting uneven brickwork.
Safety and Installation
A retaining bar hooks securely over the prop head plate, keeping the blade from tipping forward as the masonry bears down. Always hook the bracket on and pull down firmly on the front of the blade to ensure it is properly engaged before applying structural loads.
Strongboys are suitable for walls up to 225mm thick. The props must be spaced at a maximum of 900mm apart on sound brickwork, and closer if the mortar is old or weak.

Form one opening in any one length of wall at a time. Strongboys are not intended to support an already unstable structure. Work out everything the wall carries before you start, including furniture, roof tiles and loft water tanks.
