A Strongboy is a steel blade that slots into a raked-out mortar joint and sits on top of an acrow prop, holding the brickwork while you fit an RSJ or lintel underneath. Each one takes 340kg.
The blade goes into the bed joint above the beam position and the prop carries the load down to the floor. Because the support sits on one side of the wall, the opening stays clear to work in.
Common jobs are breaking out single or double skin walls, installing RSJs and concrete lintels, fitting new windows and doors, replacing wall ties and supporting damaged or uneven brickwork.
A retaining bar hooks over the prop plate and keeps the blade from tipping forward as the masonry bears down. Hook it on, then pull down on the front of the blade to check it has engaged before you load it.
Strongboys suit walls up to 225mm. Props go at 900mm apart at most on sound brickwork, and closer where the mortar is old or weak. For thicker walls or wider openings, use Slimshore needle beams.
