Push-pull props (sometimes referred to as rakers or plumbing struts) are adjustable steel props designed to take loads in two directions (compression and tension). They are primarily used to vertically align formwork panels and secure temporary structures against wind loading.
Formwork Plumbing and Wall Support
Unlike standard vertical props that only push upwards against gravity, a push-pull prop can both push and pull. This allows site teams to precisely plumb (vertically align) wall formwork, precast concrete panels, and retaining walls before a pour. Once set, the raking props brace the structure against lateral forces, such as wind.
Push-pull props integrate seamlessly with Frami panel systems and bespoke setups using Slimshore formwork soldiers, providing vital temporary lateral support.
Light and Heavy Duty Push-Pull Systems
We offer two main categories of push-pull bracing to suit your structural loads:
- Light Duty Rakers: Standard adjustable props fitted with swivel base plates and a 'T' Connector on the top plate. These connect directly to formwork soldiers or panels. Capacities and dimensions match industry-standard BS 4074 props (see the Specification tab).
- Heavy Duty Rakers: For applications exceeding standard prop capacities, high-load push-pull struts can be assembled using Slimshore soldier units and accessories (as shown in the Specification drawings). For most typical heavy-duty applications, a Slimshore push-pull arrangement provides a capacity of up to 65kN.
Looking for vertical support props? We also hold large stocks of Acrow props and Eurex eco props. If you require a Temporary Works Design to calculate your wind loadings, contact our engineering team for a consultation.
