SEL supplied Titan Deck slab formwork support for the reinforced concrete frame construction of a two-plot apartment development in Kingston, Surrey. The planned works comprised four 250m² suspended concrete floor slabs, each 200mm thick, with the Titan Deck provision increasing to three complete 250m² sets as the concrete frame programme progressed.

The development comprised two apartment plots, with a basement also constructed beneath the second plot.

The client initially approached SEL looking for a concrete slab support system for approximately 500m² of floor area. As the project requirements developed, the planned works comprised four concrete deck pours of approximately 250m² each, all with a consistent 2.78m floor-to-soffit height.

The floor plans incorporated perimeter walls and internal party walls rather than a completely open floor plate, so the slab support system needed to work around the building layout while remaining practical to repeat across successive levels.

The Challenge: Repeated Slab Formwork Within an RC Frame

Each suspended concrete floor was approximately 250m² in area and 200mm thick.

The internal layout restricted where continuous primary and secondary beams could run, making a flexible modular system particularly useful. At the same time, the repeated slab size and consistent floor-to-soffit height meant the same basic Titan Deck arrangement could be used across the planned floor construction.

As the reinforced concrete frame works progressed, the quantity of equipment increased from the initial set to three identical 250m² Titan Deck packages.

The repeated slab dimensions and consistent soffit height made the project well suited to a modular slab formwork, decking and soffit support system.

Why Titan Deck Was Suited to the Concrete Frame

Titan Deck provides temporary support for in-situ reinforced concrete floors and suspended slabs, combining adjustable support legs with primary and secondary beams beneath the slab formwork.

For this project, each Titan Deck package was based around an approximately 250m² deck area, matching the planned floor pours.

The equipment incorporated Titan support legs, drop heads, intermediate supports and H20 primary and secondary beams. Its modular arrangement allowed the soffit support to be configured around the internal walls and other restrictions within the apartment floor plans.

Because the floor-to-soffit height remained at 2.78m, the same basic equipment configuration could be repeated through the planned slab programme.

The Titan Deck quick-strip arrangement is particularly suited to this type of repetitive RC frame construction, where similar suspended slabs are formed over successive levels.

Increasing the Titan Deck Provision as the Works Progressed

The client began with one complete 250m² Titan Deck set.

As the concrete frame programme progressed, two further identical sets were ordered, taking the total provision to three complete 250m² packages.

Using the same equipment configuration for the recurring slab areas provided a consistent approach to the floor construction without introducing a different slab support system between levels.

For multi-storey residential and commercial developments, this repeatability is one of the practical advantages of a modular slab propping and soffit formwork system.
