Rollover / Column Skip

A rollover column skip is a crane-lifted concreting skip that lays flat for filling and hangs vertically for pouring. It lets mixer trucks discharge straight into the hopper at ground level without ramps or pits, while a flexible rubber hose directs concrete straight into narrow columns, walls, and deep shutters without splashing. How Rollover Skips Work

Unlike standard upright skips, a rollover column skip lies flat on the ground while resting in its protective cradle. This horizontal position keeps the loading mouth low enough for readymix transit trucks to chute wet concrete directly into the hopper—without needing earthen access ramps or excavated pits on site.

Once loaded, the crane hooks onto the heavy-duty bale arm. As the hoist rope takes tension, the curved cradle rolls the skip upright. The payload balances automatically inside the hopper, so concrete cannot spill during lift-off.

Tremie Chute Operation

Pouring narrow columns and thin structural walls requires pinpoint accuracy. Dropping wet concrete freely down deep formwork causes aggregate to separate from cement paste on impact with rebar. To prevent segregation, the skip discharges through a flexible rubber tremie chute. Ground crews guide the hose directly between dense reinforcement cages to place concrete cleanly into the shutter.

A geared hand wheel on the side of the skip opens and closes the discharge gate, so operators can meter concrete flow steadily and stop pours without spillage. The hose fits a coupling on the skip's straight outlet and comes in 150 mm, 200 mm and 300 mm diameters.

Crane Lift Safety & Capacity

Wet concrete weighs roughly 2.4 tonnes per cubic metre. When planning crane lifts, consider total suspended mass:

• The 500L skip weighs 250 kg empty (SWL 1,200 kg).
• The 1,000L skip weighs 330 kg empty (SWL 2,400 kg).
