- Trench-side handling
How it works
SEL's standard kerb grab is a purely mechanical scissor clamp that needs no hydraulics or electric power. It hangs from an excavator, crane or telehandler via a certified drop chain.
An automatic catch handles the gripping cycle. Lowering the lifter onto a kerb trips the latch so the jaws clamp shut as the machine hoists. Once the kerb is bedded and the hoist line slackens, the latch re-engages, locking the jaws open so the machine can hoist the attachment clear without disturbing the stone or putting hands near pinch points.
Grip range and capacity
Our standard kerb grab carries a 400kg Safe Working Load (SWL) with an unladen weight of 55kg. A restrictor chain on the central linkage adjusts the jaw opening from 0mm to 600mm, covering standard half-battered (HB1, HB2 and HB3), bullnose, splay and dropper kerbs, as well as road channels and paving flags.
Replaceable 420mm rubber pads line the jaws, giving a secure friction grip on wet concrete while preventing chips or marks on precast and natural stone faces.
Machine mounting and safety
Precast concrete kerbs regularly weigh between 60kg and 140kg, making repetitive manual lifting a major breach of UK manual handling rules. Mechanising the lift eliminates strain and speeds up installation.
The central lifting eye connects to any mini-excavator from 1.5t upward or to a site telehandler fitted with a telescopic forklift jib. Every unit is supplied fully inspected and certified to LOLER 1998 and PUWER standards.
