A mechanical scissor grab for palletless lifting of banded brick and block packs
- Safe Working Load of 1,800kg
- Adjustable 740mm to 1,250mm opening

Our standard block grab is a mechanical scissor grab designed for palletless lifting of banded bricks, blocks, paving cubes and kerb packs. With a 1,800kg Safe Working Load and an automatic open-close latch, a single crane, telehandler or excavator operator can offload and move packs around site without manual slinging between lifts.
Typical Applications
- Strapped facing brick packs
- Dense concrete blocks
- Palletless handling on commercial groundworks
- Paving blocks and slabs
- Roadside kerb packs
- Offloading delivery wagons
How Our Block Grab Works
Our standard block grab works purely on mechanical scissor action and gravity. As the host machine pulls upward on the central lifting eye, the scissor arms pivot inward to clamp the sides of the pack. The heavier the pack, the tighter the grip. Tough vulcanised rubber jaw pads provide high friction and protect block faces and edges from chipping.
An internal mechanical latch lets a single operator run the entire lift from the cab. Lower the unladen attachment to the ground and the latch locks the jaws wide open so it drops easily over the pack. As it settles, slack in the chain releases the latch, allowing the jaws to clamp as tension comes on. Once you land the load, the mechanism resets automatically to the open position so the unit lifts clear without anyone touching it. Adjustable levelling wheels on either side help you set the scissor arms to the pack height for a square, balanced lift.
Safety Nets and Site Regulations
Because our standard block grab holds packs by side friction, UK site safety practice requires a secondary restraint net whenever lifting overhead. Lift the pack 100mm to 150mm off the ground to check balance, wrap the net under the load and hook it to the pins on the frame before hoisting. The net is there to catch stray bricks if strapping breaks, not to take the lifting load.
Every standard block grab we supply is thoroughly examined every six months under LOLER and PUWER and goes out with a current test certificate.
Hitching to Machines
SEL's standard block grab hangs from a central lifting eye and fits any host machine with enough reach and capacity:
- Cranes and excavators: Hang the block grab directly from the hook or hitch using a certified Grade 8 single-leg drop chain.
- Telehandlers and forklifts: Fit a rated forklift adaptor over the tines and pin it behind the heels to give you a central overhead hook.
