The Hi-Clear Box System is a heavy-duty, high clearance trench shield engineered specifically for the installation of large-diameter pipes, culverts, and tanks. By elevating the lowest structural spindles, it provides an unobstructed vertical workspace of up to 2.29m, allowing contractors to safely lower oversized infrastructure into the trench.

Available for sale and hire nationwide, this robust modular system eliminates the need to constantly adjust or remove lower support struts, significantly accelerating the installation of large utility components while keeping groundworkers safe from trench collapse.

Core capabilities and applications

Designed for oversized infrastructure. When standard trench shields obstruct vertical space, the Hi-Clear Box is the essential solution. It is ideal for deep, unstable excavations where significant under-strut space is critical, including:

• Large-diameter concrete and steel pipe laying
• Pre-cast culvert and attenuation tank installations
• Deep chamber and manhole ring construction
• Major sewer and storm drain infrastructure projects

For standard drainage trenches requiring 1.50m clearance or less, our Standard Trench Box System is typically the more appropriate and cost-effective choice.

Operational mechanics and capacity

Three clearance settings. To adapt to different site requirements and ground pressures, the bottom strut can be pinned at three distinct heights:

• High setting: 2.29m clearance (Max earth pressure up to 21.8 kN/m²)
• Medium setting: 1.99m clearance (Max earth pressure up to 39.5 kN/m²)
• Low setting: 1.69m clearance (Max earth pressure up to 45.6 kN/m²)

Heavy-duty footprint and depth. The system utilises a massive 3.15m-high base box with 4.00m-long plates. If greater excavation depth is required, the system is fully compatible with the 1.40m-high top boxes from our Standard Trench Box range, allowing contractors to safely step down into deeper trenches.

Adjustable widths. Trench width is controlled using our standard range of Mini, Midi, and Maxi adjustable spindles. With the appropriate spindle extension pieces, the external width of the box can be expanded from 0.85m right up to a maximum of 4.48m.
