Trench Sheet Extractors are heavy-duty lifting accessories engineered specifically for pulling overlap trench sheets and sheet piles out of the ground safely and efficiently.
How Sheet Extractors Work
These extractors utilise a robust threaded pin mechanism that aligns with the lifting hole in the head of a trench sheet. Once the pin is securely wound in, a swivel locking hook and single leg drop chain attached to an excavator or crane provides the vertical lift. They are supplied complete with a safety R-clip to ensure the locking pin remains tightly fastened during extraction.
Capacity and Sheet Compatibility
Available in two Working Load Limits (WLL) to suit different sheet profiles and soil cohesions:
- 4.0 Tonne Extractor: Designed for standard overlap, L8, and KD4 trench sheets.
- 7.0 Tonne Extractor: Built for heavier KD6 profiles and larger interlocking sheet piles.
Safe Lifting Practices
Sheet extractors must only be used for extracting sheets vertically. They are not to be used for pitching, driving, or handling operations. Operators must account for soil cohesion (which can create shock loads double the static weight) and ensure a 10-metre exclusion zone around the pulling area.
What are trench sheet extractors used for?
Trench sheet extractors are used exclusively to pull overlapping and interlocking trench sheets out of the ground following excavation works. They clamp securely to the sheet head, allowing an excavator to lift the profile out vertically.
How do you attach a sheet extractor to a trench sheet?
To attach a sheet extractor, wind out the threaded pin, place the extractor over the head of the trench sheet, and align the holes. Wind the threaded pin tightly through the sheet and secure it with the provided safety R-clip before commencing the lift.
Can I use a sheet extractor to pitch or handle sheets?
No, sheet extractors cannot be used for pitching or handling. They are strictly designed for pulling and extraction only.
What lifting chain is required for a sheet extractor?
A suitable single leg drop chain with a swivel locking hook should be used to connect the sheet extractor to the lifting machine. The swivel hook prevents chain twist and allows the extractor to turn naturally during the pull.
Which size sheet extractor do I need for my trench sheets?
The 4.0 tonne sheet extractor should be used for standard overlap, L8, and KD4 trench piles. The heavier 7.0 tonne extractor is required for extracting KD6, SEI, and larger interlocking piles.
What safety clearances are needed when extracting trench sheets?
A minimum exclusion zone of 10 metres must be maintained around the pulling area when extracting trench sheets, as soil cohesion can cause unpredictable shock loads during the initial lift.
