Mini Trench Box

The Mini Trench Box system delivers the high-capacity depth capabilities of our standard shields, but in a compact 2.0m or 2.5m footprint. Designed for confined urban sites and deep spot repairs, it allows contractors to safely support unstable ground down to 5.30m without requiring the lifting capacity needed for standard 3.0m+ boxes.

Available for sale and hire across the UK, SEL's Mini Trench Box system bridges the gap between our Lightweight Trench Boxes and the heavy-duty Standard Trench Box System. It provides exceptional earth pressure resistance while keeping the base box weight under one tonne.

Core capabilities and applications

Compact footprint for restricted sites. With plate lengths of 2.0m and 2.5m, the Mini Trench Box is designed for excavations where a standard-length box simply will not fit, or where the job does not require a long continuous trench. It is typically deployed for:

• Deep spot repairs and utility maintenance
• Small chamber construction
• Confined urban utility trenches
• Sites with restricted excavator lifting capacity

Operational mechanics and capacity

Industry-leading depth capability. While many competitor mini trench boxes are strictly limited to 4.0m depths, the SEL Mini Trench Box features a robust 60mm panel thickness and is fully capable of "dig and push" installation in unstable ground. By combining the 2.6m base box with up to two 1.4m top boxes, our system can shore excavations to a maximum recommended depth of 5.30m safely. All equipment is fully compliant with BS EN 13331.

Adjustable widths. Trench width is controlled using SEL's interchangeable strut system. By swapping between Mini, Midi, and Maxi spindles (and adding extension pieces), the external width can be fine-tuned from a narrow 0.85m up to a maximum of 4.48m.

Efficient site handling. The primary advantage of the Mini system is its weight. The 2.0m base box weighs just 965kg complete, allowing it to be safely handled by smaller 360-degree excavators or backhoe loaders, reducing the need for heavy plant on tight urban sites.
