Trench sheet driving caps are heavy-duty steel shields placed over the top of a sheet profile during installation. They absorb the direct impact of hydraulic or manual driving equipment, preventing end damage and significantly improving the driveability of the sheets.

Protecting Your Trench Sheets

Pushing trench sheets into the ground with the bare bucket of an excavator is a common but destructive practice. Direct metal-on-metal impact can easily deform, crush, or split the top of the sheet, rendering it unsafe and difficult to extract.

A driving cap solves this by providing a solid, flat surface that distributes the downward force evenly across the entire profile. This simple, protective barrier ensures the energy from the excavator or piling hammer is transferred cleanly down the sheet, preserving its lifespan and keeping it in prime condition for future groundworks projects.

Choosing the Right Fit for the Job

To ensure maximum energy transfer and a secure fit, a driving cap must match the profile of the sheet beneath it. We supply two primary models to cover our complete trench sheet range.

For standard utility works, the LD (Light Duty) Drive Cap pairs perfectly with our lighter Standard and BD500 profiles. When undertaking deep excavations that demand robust support, the HD (Heavy Duty) Drive Cap is required. This heavy-duty model is cast specifically to fit our thicker SEI and KD6 trench sheets.

Drive Caps: Common Questions

What is a trench sheet driving cap?
A trench sheet driving cap is a protective steel cover placed over the top of a trench sheet. It absorbs the impact from an excavator or piling hammer, preventing the top of the sheet from being damaged, deformed, or split during installation.
How does a trench sheet driving cap improve driveability?
A driving cap improves driveability by providing a solid, flat surface that distributes the downward force of the hydraulic excavator evenly across the entire profile of the sheet, helping it drive straighter and more efficiently into the ground.
Which drive cap do I need for standard trench sheets?
For our standard 3.4mm trench sheets and 6.0mm BD500 sheets, you should use the LD (Light Duty) Drive Cap to ensure a correct fit.
Which drive cap fits KD6 sheets?
To drive our heavy-duty 8.0mm KD6 sheets or fully interlocking SEI sheets, you must use the HD (Heavy Duty) Drive Cap, which is built to withstand the higher driving forces required for these robust profiles.
